Best Practices for Engineering Electric Mobility Projects in Europe: A Case Study of Successful Charging Station Implementation Objective This paper aims to present best practices in engineering for electric mobility projects in Europe through a case study of a successful charging station implementation. The study highlights the importance of scalability, system robustness, critical point analysis, and the utilization of solar panels in engineering for electric mobility projects. The objective is to provide valuable insights for engineers, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in the transition to efficient and sustainable electric mobility. Methodology The study scrutinizes the engineering design and implementation of multiple charging stations, encompassing the Carabanchel Bus Operations Center charging station. The analysis involves an appraisal of the most suitable solution to comply with relevant regulations, the utilization of inverted pantographs, and the installation of a photovoltaic system comprising 613 panels. Results This study offers new insights into best practices for engineering electric mobility projects in Europe and presents a case study of a successful charging station implementation. The Carabanchel Bus Operations Center charging station successfully provides 147 charging spots for electric buses. The charging station features a robust electrical system with two transformers, a double medium-voltage connection, and an underground design to optimize space usage. The study highlights the importance of scalable design, critical point analysis, and the utilization of solar panels in engineering for electric mobility projects in Europe. The cases of study also address advances in the electrification of public transport, freight transport electrification and charging infrastructure to demonstrate how electric mobility can be a comprehensive solution to address mobility and environmental issues. Finally, the paper discusses the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve a successful transition to electric mobility and its role in creating a more sustainable society. Conclusion The successful implementation of multiple charging stations, including the Carabanchel Bus Operations Center charging station, demonstrates the crucial role of best practices in engineering for electric mobility projects in Europe. The study highlights the significance of scalability, system robustness, critical point analysis, and the utilization of solar panels in engineering for large-scale electric mobility projects. These findings provide valuable insights for engineers, policymakers, and stakeholders keen on achieving an efficient and sustainable transition to electric mobility.
