As Euro NCAP continues to expand its reach in global consumer vehicle safety, Matthew’s role focusses on defining many of these new areas, principally Assisted and Automated Driving and now Vans and Heavy Truck safety. 

Matthew spent 35 years with Thatcham Research, there he developed the company’s safety program and lead the authored new test procedures around whiplash, ADAS and Assisted Driving as part of its work with Euro NCAP. 

Matthew has authored many technical papers and his influence in vehicle safety has been recognised through numerous awards including the NHTSA ESV Special Award in 2011 and the ACS Pathfinder Award in 2020. 

His new focus is to make heavy trucks safer in pursuit of Vison Zero.
