Mobility Engineer 2030

FOP2018-08-01

Mobility Engineer 2030 is a collaborative initiative, led by FISITA, utilising the organisation’s unique, international status and relationships between its key industry and academic stakeholders to consider how mobility engineers of the future can be best educated and prepared to deliver the skills-sets that the fast evolving ‘mobility services’ industry will require.

The initiative aims to identify the skills that mobility engineers will require in 2030 as a first step in a long-term process of engagement, evaluation and feedback.

The intention of this paper is to support further progressive discussions, considerations and thought leadership as industry and academia prepares the environment for the next generation of our industry’s technologists; the ‘mobility engineers’.

Mobility Engineering 2030 White Paper - Part 1

FOP2021-02-01

A follow-up to the highly successful FISITA membership collaboration that resulted in the Mobility Engineer 2030 White Paper, which reviewed the education requirements for the future of mobility engineering. The logical next step is to consider how engineering as a whole also needs to change, as the industry evolves – and what those changes will be, and how the industry will need to adapt. This has led to the development of the Mobility Engineering 2030 White Paper.

Due to the volume of contributions received; and the breadth of those contributions, it has been decided that rather than one paper, there will be three – each focussing on areas of important consideration within this broad and critical subject.

Part 1, which is an overview providing an outline of the Engineering 2030 topic and contains contributions from the ‘Mobility Engineering Questionnaire’ conducted with FISITA Corporate Members as a key element of this project, in 2019. The feedback is significant and includes results from the FISITA Academic Advisory Board, Technical Committee, Industry Committees and the outcomes of independent, collaborative workshops held across four countries in Asia and Europe. It also has contributions from the German Metalworkers' Union, Munich University of Applied Sciences and from Competivation Consulting in Germany.

Mobility Engineering 2030 White Paper - Part 2

FOP2021-11-01

Launched at the FISITA World Mobility Summit 2021, this new publication is the second of three parts to the Mobility Engineering 2030 White Paper initiative.

Part two provides a deep dive into IT related aspects of mobility engineering, such as connectivity, autonomous vehicles (AV), infrastructure requirements to support these innovations, systems engineering and ensuring that this new mobility is available to all, because this is clearly an area of significant and substantial change over the next decade.

About FISITA

FISITA, as the global platform for engineering societies, industry and academia provides a unique forum for members and partners to collaborate and publish valuable technical content for the community. The first FISITA collaborative white paper Mobility Engineer 2030 was published in 2018 with contributions from over 20 Corporate Members and seven universities. This reviewed the education requirements for the future of mobility engineering and preceded the publication of Mobility Engineering parts 1 and 2 in 2021 which consider how engineering as a whole needs to change, as the industry evolves.
