In preparation for the EuroBrake 2020 event, FISITA began discussing with the EuroBrake Steering Committee a new website to provide a year-round home for the community. A taste of the new feel was shared early in the year and the plan was to review the development at the physical event in Barcelona in June. COVID-19 then arrived, and plans changed. The physical event had to be cancelled and development on the new site accelerated. This blog introduces the new site and describes some of the new features that will appear in coming months.
The international braking technology community
EuroBrake has been the largest annual gathering of international braking industry professionals since its launch in 2012. The 2019 event welcomed 1,200 delegates to view a technical programme of 150 presentations and an exhibition featuring 100 international organisations. 2020 was set to be even larger, but COVID-19 put those plans on hold and accelerated the roll out of this website. All of the engineers and scientists who visit EuroBrake or work for the companies that exhibit at the show and all of the speakers, reviewers and advisors behind the technical programme will have a home in this website. Initially this will be through the companies who exhibit at the show and their presence in the braking industry directory and through the submissions and the technical programme, but as the site develops, we expect a fully interactive community to develop that will enable all to communicate all year round and build up expectations and meetings for the annual EuroBrake physical events.
The EuroBrake Braking Industry Directory includes over 300 companies that have exhibited at or sponsored the event since 2012. Links are provided back to the original event or events that they attended and for current exhibitors and companies who wish to purchase a premium listing, a detailed profile is included and each company has the choice to nominate an ambassador within the community. In response to a long-standing request to improve relationships and exposure with the OEMs and Tier ones, FISITA will be inviting its Corporate members to join the EuroBrake community and reach out to exhibitors and sponsors on interesting topics.
As plans for 2021 are finalised an exhibition space map will be added and booth space will be open to reservation for existing exhibitors and others who purchase a premium entry. Booth map locations will be added to the directory listings and the directory will serve as a guide to the exhibition and an index to the technical programme submissions by company.
Many authors who had submitted papers for the 2020 technical programme decided to publish their submissions virtually this year, while others deferred to next year and a few withdrew. These submissions bring you the latest braking and friction technology developments with over 30 full papers, 25 presentations and 10 posters in four tracks: Materials, Components and Manufacturing; Fundamentals of Braking Technology; Environmental Effects including Brake Emissions and NVH; and Braking Systems: Emerging Vehicle Concepts. Titles and abstracts are available to browse freely. Access to download the papers and view presentations requires paid registration. As FISITA develops the system, registered users will be able to contact each other, and comments and questions on papers will be possible.
The call for papers for next year’s event planned to be held in Germany will remain open until October 2020 and then the technical programme for next year will be put together.
The EuroBrake Student Opportunities Programme (ESOP) offers students from around the world the chance to participate in EuroBrake. ESOP 2020 was held virtually and the top 50 students from over 100 applications from students worldwide joined the EuroBrake industry experts for a sequence of virtual events in July 2020.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students participate, with disciplines ranging from mechanical engineering to management to computational modelling and simulation.
While exhibition booking for EuroBrake 2021 will open in September or October 2020, sponsorship options are available now and if your company would like to sponsor this website, get involved in planning for 2021 or sponsor BrakingNews or our event email notifications, please contact us. As with previous years, EuroBrake offers a range of opportunities to promote and experience the latest braking and friction technology, materials and solutions. Participants include key decision-makers from major braking leaders, mobility OEMs and tier one vendors to material suppliers, universities and research institutes.
EuroBrake 2021 is planned to be held in Germany, with a spacious exhibition and 140 presentation slots in technical sessions across the three days. The Call for Papers is now open and, as with previous events, poster submissions are welcome alongside full paper and oral-only presentations. Access the 2021 Authors’ Area to submit your abstract directly.
Being a part of the EuroBrake 2021 Technical Programme is your opportunity to reach an influential audience of braking specialists, to share knowledge and to connect with decision-makers from leading companies around the world.
