Congress: A methodology to quantify variation between crash tests and crash simulations

Event: FISITA World Congress 14-16 September 2021 online

Name: Shahabaz Afraj, Research Assistant

Company: Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt

Presentation Title: F2021-PIF-072 Quantification methodology for crash behavior comparison between virtual crash simulations and real-time crash tests

Please introduce yourself briefly…

My name is Shahabaz Afraj, I am a PhD student enrolled at University of West Bohemia under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luděk Hynčík. I work as a Doctoral Researcher at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and Audi AG, Ingolstadt, Germany.

What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?

I will be presenting a methodology to quantify variation between crash tests and crash simulations. The underlying principle is based on the law of conservation of energy. The aim is to generate features from studying these variations to identify patterns & structures and their respective causalities.

What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?

Participants will gain insight into a novel way to look at the crash data and develop a deeper insight.

Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?

Passive safety system development is an essential part of every automotive product development. The trend of AI based data analysis is one of the most important trends in this domain.

Passive safety system development is an essential part of every automotive product development. The trend of AI based data analysis is one of the most important trends in this domain.

What challenges do these trends present?

The key challenge is that most of the Machine learning or Neural net based AI techniques provide a black box model.

And what opportunities do these trends offer?

We can generate new models for data analysis that provide complete/partial insight into its computation.

About the FISITA World Congress

Since 1947, the FISITA World Congress has been the leading international meeting place for industry experts, engineers and executives to exchange ideas and discuss the trends that drive the automotive industry forward. The theme for the 38th FISITA World Congress is 'From automobile to mobility. New roles. New challenges' and it will take place 14-16 September 2021, with the opportunity for the global audience to join virtually available for the first time. Registration is now open, with the Early Bird and special registration rates available until 31 August 2021.

Content from the 2020 FISITA Web Congress is available within the FISITA Technical Library, while material from previous Congress events back to 1998 is available in the FISITA Store. By the time of this year’s Congress, all the content will be available within the FISITA Technical Library, with free access provided to FISITA members.
